You Can Now Become Professional at Video Games at School

Video Games

Video games have always been considered a kid’s habit. It’s even touted in the popular culture as such. Not a lot of people realize that the professional gamers all over the globe are earning five figure salaries each month. Not a lot of hard working jobs help you make that much.

However, due to lack of awareness about gaming, this thought process of ‘video games are only for kids’ has only grown. Some cultures are adapting to the change. Especially in the U.S. and Brazil, the gamers are being provided proper channels through which they can help better themselves. There are even organizations that pick good players up in their teens and groom them up for bigger competitions of video games in the future.

This one particular university in China called Lanxiang, The Technical School has really taken video games to the next level. It is actually teaching students on how to be good at the most competitive video games. They are teaching them about the maps, about the layouts, about the teamwork, about the strategies, about the counter-strategies, etc.

Most importantly, they are teaching their students to keep their composure during the difficult games. Those of you, who have been following professional gamers, know that they can be quite toxic especially when they are losing. It is important to keep calm and focus on what’s ahead. Most of the team just throw in the towel and call it quits. This creates animosity between the teammates and they are unable to stick together for the future events. The institute has taken all of it into consideration and has devised their video games teaching plan in accordance.

First Year

Almost all of the biggest competitive video games are taught at this institute. The list includes League of Legends, Overwatch, Counter Strike, and the biggest sensation right now Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds. You can choose any one of these games to master but the basics remain the same. This is why the University has opted for three years period for these courses.

First year revolves around basics and discusses video games in general and different theories regarding going forward. This is where people get to know each and they have the option to find the partners they are most compatible with. They can create a team of their own and if they are proficient enough, the school doesn’t intervene. People who are unable to find a team are assessed on their performance on the year’s end and are inserted in a team that’s closest to their level.

The institute believes that the gamers that perform at the similar level have more chances of sticking together. Including an outlier will mess with the team synergy and that’s just unacceptable. Comradery amongst the squad is the most important thing when it comes to professional play. You will need to know each and every one of your teammates on a personal level if you are to do any good in the competitions.

This is the kind of mindset of the people at Lanxiang, The Technical School, and we have to say that it has worked wonders for them. How each of the game being taught is different and on how big of a scale they are operating has been discussed below.

Overwatch

Despite being relatively new to the professional scene, Overwatch has garnered quite a reputation. The game has been selling like hotcakes since its launch and even won multiple Game of the Year awards, which previously was an impossible feat to achieve for a multiplayer only game.

Blizzard did an amazing job with the gameplay and put the entire focus of the game on teamwork. This meant that people who have amazing individual skills would still have to rely on their teammates if they had to win. It didn’t really click with people in the beginning because they were used to individual play in other multiplayer oriented video games.

However, with time, everyone realized that each character in the game has a certain role to play. So instead of giving up on the game, they started to master their own roles. If they weren’t good at killing the opposing teams, then they decided to play support roles and helped their teams stay alive.

Similarly, people who had individual skills were able to shine even more with the help of their teammates. The comradery that Overwatch brought out of player was downright amazing and became one of the biggest reasons why people got attracted to the game.

Now, it has a huge player base across different platforms. The professional scene of Overwatch is rather new, but the events they have organized thus far have been fantastic. The sheer quality of the broadcast was amazing. Overwatch has a big future and you would definitely be seeing students of Linxiang, The Technical School in the future events.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) came on to the scene and nobody even knew about it. However, soon after that, it became this huge sensation. Now, almost everyone is playing it.

Battle Royale genre has been present a long time but it hadn’t been done like PUBG. 100 players drop on a huge island and only one can leave. This creates for some dramatic and heart wrenching moments as you see island’s popular get reduced one by one.

From professional point of view, this game requires a lot of skill and map knowledge. You have to know where to land, where to get your weapons, how to survive the initial bloodbath, etc. The pro player in PUBG is not the one who gets the most kills, it is the one that can survive until the end.

Even if you have zero kills, you can still make it through the final two. Survivability is key and only way to achieve that is through map knowledge. This is why most of the focus on PUBG course is on the maps. They are teaching the good, the bad, and the ugly to the students, so that they are prepared for what comes next.

League of Legends

League of Legends (LOL) doesn’t need any introduction. This game has been around for a very long time and almost everyone who owns a PC has played it. It is one of the most competitive video games in the world and requires a huge thought process and teamwork to succeed.

It is an incredibly technical game and has a steep learning curve. New people are always at a loss when they start it because they have no idea what they are supposed to be doing. Everyone has set roles in this game and when you select your champion, it is assumed that you know what his role is and how you will play him. There are different lanes to hold and each character helps with that.

The teaching process of League of Legends is the most difficult out of all. The reason behind it is the sheer number strategies and counter-strategies that are already out there. First, the students have to learn what’s already out there, then they have to learn about each of their champions. Finally, they have the task to master some of those champions. It is not an easy game to become a professional at, but due to its popularity, it is the one that’s worth it. Organizations that own LOL teams pay them a ton of money and all of it is absolutely worth it.

Counter Strike

To Say that Counter Strike is the most popular tactical shooter out there would not be an understatement. Although the bomb sites on all the maps remain the same, the manner of attacking and defending them is entirely different each time. Just like the other video games in this list, Counter Strike needs a lot of strategizing.

You can own all the best players in the world who are really good at shooting the other team, but you won’t get anywhere because in CS, you need teamwork and strategies to succeed. You have to know how you are going to be clearing roamers, how you are going to be attacking the bomb site, who will be planting the diffuser, who will be watching the planter’s back, etc.

So much thought goes into this game, which is why it has become so popular amongst the masses. People love to watch it as well just because of the sheer variety that it has to offer. There are some great gunfights to see, some greats holds that you can learn from, and some great attacking strategies. Counter Strike remains the same, and yet keeps on evolving. This is what makes this gem all so special.
