If you want to delete your Snapchat account, use Snapchat’s official account portal or the Delete Account option inside the app. Deleting your account is not the same as deleting a Snap, a chat or a story. Before proceeding, consider exporting any Memories or other data that you want to keep.
How to Delete Snapchat from a Browser or Android
- Open the official Snapchat accounts portal and sign in.
- Select Delete my account.
- Enter your account password when asked.
- Select Continue and read the confirmation screen.
How to Delete Snapchat on iPhone
- Open Snapchat and go to your profile.
- Tap the settings icon and scroll to Account Actions.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Follow the link to the Snapchat accounts portal, confirm your password, and choose Continue.
What Happens After You Request Deletion?
Snapchat initially deactivates your account for 30 days, during which you can reactivate it. For accounts outside India, Snapchat says permanent deletion follows after a further 30 days. India has a longer regional deletion period. Some data may be retained for legal, security and business purposes. Do not assume that pressing Delete Account instantly erases everything.
Can You Reactivate a Deleted Snapchat Account?
Within the 30-day deactivation window, you can normally reactivate the account by signing back into the Snapchat app using the account username. Once permanently deleted, the account cannot be recovered. See Snapchat’s reactivation guidance.
How to Delete a Story, Message or Friend Instead
If your intention is to remove a particular Story, message or contact, you do not need to delete your entire account. Use the relevant Stories, Chat or Friends controls inside Snapchat. Be aware that other people may already have saved content, taken screenshots or otherwise retained a copy.
