Can you change your Spotify username? Spotify uses a username as an account identifier, and you cannot change that username in the usual account settings. What you can change is the display name that people see on your profile, playlists and inside the app. The display name does not replace your account sign-in credentials.
How to Change Your Spotify Display Name on iPhone or Android
- Open the Spotify app and tap your profile picture.
- Select View profile, then Edit.
- Tap your current display name, type the new name, and select Save.
Menu wording can differ slightly by app version. If the Edit control is missing, update Spotify and open your profile again.
How to Change Your Spotify Display Name on Desktop
- Open Spotify on your computer and click your profile picture.
- Select Profile.
- Click the profile name, edit your display name, and select Save.
Contrary to some older tutorials, a Facebook connection is not required to edit your Spotify display name on desktop. Connecting another service just to change a name introduces unnecessary account linking.
Username vs. Display Name: What Changes?
- Username: an identifier used by Spotify; it is generally not manually editable.
- Display name: the name shown on your public profile and playlists; you can change it.
- Login: sign in using your account’s supported authentication method, such as your email address or the service you used to register. A display name is not your login.
What If Your New Name Does Not Appear?
Reopen your profile, confirm that you saved the change, and allow the app to refresh. If a connected social account’s name still appears, set a Spotify display name directly in the app. Avoid creating a new account just to change the public-facing name: playlists, subscriptions and library data do not automatically transfer.
