Huawei Mate X: The Most Promising Foldable Phone Yet
2019 seems to be the era of foldable phones. The leading mobile phone manufacturers have joined the race to come out with the best foldable phone. Following the likes of Samsung Galaxy Fold and others, Huawei has also announced its own foldable phone – Huawei Mate X – which seems to be the most promising of all.
Huawei Mate X is Here
Samsung’s Galaxy Fold may begin to worry a bit because it has got some tough competition in the form of Huawei Mate X. The Chinese tech giant announced its own foldable phone at Mobile World Congress which surprisingly looks more superior and promising than Samsung’s foldable phone in every possible way.
According to Huawei, which also happens to be the world’s second-largest smartphone manufacturer, Mate X is two things Samsung’s Galaxy fold isn’t: the future of design and the future of technology. It also believes that Mate X is the world’s fastest foldable 5G phone which itself sounds exemplary.
How Mate X is Better than Galaxy Fold
Let’s take a look at some of the notable features the Mate X comes with and how far it exceeds in terms of these features than the Galaxy fold.
Compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, the Mate X has a visible edge that turns it into a more promising foldable phone. In terms of the Galaxy Fold’s screens, we come to see that they are compromised. The exterior of this foldable phone features a skinny and small 4.6-inch screen surrounded with huge bezels. Moreover, there is a cutout on the unfolded larger interior screen for the selfie cameras in the upper right.
On the other hand, the screens of Mate X are larger, stretching closer towards the edges in all the modes. The Mate X has a 6.6-inch (2,480 x 1,148) front display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a 6.38-inch display (2,480 x 892) with 25:9 aspect ratio on the rear when it is folded up.
As soon as you unfold the phone, you will get to see a larger 8-inch (2,480 x 2,220) screen with 8:7.1 aspect ratio. More content can be viewed and two apps can be opened simultaneously on this screen.
While watching a Huawei spokesperson fold and unfold the Mate X, we were left truly amazed. The Galaxy fold looked nothing short of an incomplete prototype compared to the Mate X.
Samsung has still not given any details on how thick Galaxy fold is when it is folded up. On the other hand, Huawei is proudly flaunting the Mate X’s thickness which is 5.4mm when unfolded and 11mm when folded up.
Mate X: Other Incredible Features
The Mate X also comes with a “grip bar” which is inside the narrow body where the Leica-designed cameras and USB-C port reside. This grip bar helps to keep the Mate X’s grip firm while holding it with one hand. It also features a power button that can be used as a fingerprint reader as well.
The insides of this foldable phone are equally as remarkable. The device is powered by Huawei’s own 7-nanometer Kirin 980 chip and Balong 5,000 5G modem which is extremely fast and is capable of download speeds of up to 4.6 Gbps. In fact, the 5G connectivity is so fast that it will enable users to download a 1GB movie just in three seconds.
Huawei’s Mate X comes with 512GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM. As far as the battery is concerned, it has a 4,500 mAh power cell. In addition to that, the Mate X supports 55-watt charging, which allows the foldable phone to be charged up to eighty-five percent just in thirty minutes.
The price of the Mate X is set at about $2,600 which is considerably more than the Galaxy Fold.
Even though Huawei has left no stone unturned with the Mate X, considering the larger screens and the incredible battery size, it still has to face the same challenges that the rest of the foldable phones need to overcome.
So far, the Mate X does seem like the most promising foldable phone to come out but we cannot say much until the reviews start coming in. Nevertheless, the phone manufacturers have to go a long way to convince people that foldable phones are worth buying.
